The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has confirmed the plenary programme for its upcoming Open Forum event, taking place on 21 March 2013 in the West Midlands.

Hot on the heels of previous discussions held at SMMT Open Forum events, delegates will benefit from first-hand accounts of the opportunities awaiting the UK supply chain, the work undertaken by the Automotive Council and the business outlook in 2013.

Kicking off the event, the first speaker session will focus on the Automotive Council’s achievements to date and work going forward to strengthen the supply chain as well as activities undertaken by government. Members of the Automotive Council’s Technology Group and Supply Chain Group will highlight the progress being made by the two key workstreams.

The second half of the event will focus on the new business opportunities available to the automotive supply chain following the surge of investment during the last two years. The speaker session will include presentations from Mick Aiers, Purchasing Manager, General Motors and Andrew Wareing, General Manager – Purchasing, Nissan Europe, who will explore the vehicle manufacturers’ perspective, while Chris Gane, Managing Director, Caparo Materials Engineering will present the supplier viewpoint.

Commenting, Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive said, “2012 was a positive year for UK automotive, with sustained investment from global vehicle manufacturers, vehicle output at its highest since 2008, and industry breaking all-time export records for cars.
“It’s essential that we do all we can to maintain this momentum and a strong, thriving supply chain is vital to the future success of the wider automotive industry. SMMT’s Open Forum aims to help automotive suppliers at every level of the chain make the most of the new business opportunities, providing a unique chance to network with colleagues and find out more about the support available.”

To be held at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre in Coventry, the event is free to attend and will including a networking lunch. Previous events have had a capacity audience and it is advised that members and non-members register interest early as delegate numbers are strictly limited.
