MIA membership up 25% in 2012

The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) has seen its membership numbers rise by 25 per cent in the past 12 months, as its role in growing its members’ client-bases spreads. The organisation has been pivotal in helping its companies transfer their world-leading high performance engineering capabilities to new sectors such as mainstream automotive, defence, aerospace and marine, as well as into new geographical markets such as the US, India, Germany and, for the first time, China.
“We are delighted to see the motorsport sector embracing the work of the MIA, so enthusiastically,” says chief executive of the MIA, Chris Aylett. He added: “MIA members are used to developing highly innovative solutions, and those fast-paced skills, honed in the highly competitive world of motorsport, are in huge demand. The MIA wants to help show that capability to a wider audience. We create a stage from which motorsport businesses can shout about their successes, showcase their expertise and ultimately, grow their businesses.”
Roy Cotterill, sales manager at Birchills Automotive, one of Europe’s leading exhaust component systems suppliers, said: “Through our relationship with the MIA, we’ve been able to win new contracts in OE automotive with leading manufacturers, that otherwise would not have been possible. Being a member of the MIA is like having a separate marketing company working for you. David Cunliffe, director at DC Electronics, added: “Being a member of the MIA has raised our company profile within the motorsport community, especially as we were awarded the MIA’s export achievement award in 2011. The association has helped us identify new markets by taking part in business development visits and generated meetings with key players and decision makers. One of these meetings led to sales worth over £500,000, and they have also introduced us to fellow members who have become customers and suppliers.”
The MIA is celebrating a successful year with a series of special offers for new and existing members alike. During December and January, it is offering membership through until the end of April 2014 for the price of 12 months (i.e. 16 months for the price of 12).
